Elizabeth Taylor’s Casa Kimberly History

During 1962, a romantic love story developed at the Casa Kimberly in Puerto Vallarta between Elizabeth Taylor and actor Richard Burton. They arrived to Puerto Vallarta to start filming the iconic John Huston’s movie The Night of the Iguana. The two actually met just a couple years before when they worked together filming the movie Cleopatra. Even though Taylor and Burton were already married to other people, they started an amazing romance and passionate affair. Burton lived directly across the street from where Taylor was staying (Casa Kimberly house). They decided to have a second story bridge that was built above the street, so the two houses would be connected to one another. This was an excellent way that the two could have their privacy and stay away from the paparazzi’s prying eyes. Not long after, Burton bought the Casa Kimberly and he gave it to Taylor for her thirty-second birthday, which was in 1964. Burton and Taylor married, then they got a divorce, and this happened twice between the two. Their passionate love story is how Puerto Vallarta began to become so popular for vacationers.

Casa Kimberly House is Now a Boutique Hotel

Elizabeth Taylor’s former house now functions as an amazing and beautiful boutique hotel and a restaurant that is open air. Burton and Taylor’s homes were combined, and there are nine luxury suites, a refreshing pool, and a spa on site. The bridge that was built between the two homes is called the Puente Del Amor, or the Bridge of Love for obvious reasons, and today visitors can walk across the charming bridge just as Taylor and Burton did several decades ago. One of the suites at the boutique hotel has a tub that is pink marble and it is shaped in a heart, which Taylor personally had commissioned. All of the suites at the hotel have been designed individually, and they each have beautiful antiques in them along with stunning crystal chandeliers, hand painted tiles, and each of the bathrooms are elegant. Each of the suites also comes with a private patio and their own personal Jacuzzi. A wonderful pool is located on the property so the guests can go for a dip in the pool while they enjoy the ocean and city views of Puerto Vallarta. Guests can be pampered just like Taylor did with an on-site Spa that provides personalized treatments.
