PV Airport is Safe for Travel!

The Airports Council International is the only global trade representative of the world’s airport authorities. Their health certification was created to show travelers where they can safely travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Puerto Vallarta International Airport was awarded because they are following the correct safety protocols to keep staff and travelers safe. Health and safety standard guidelines were created using health protocols from the ICAO Council (a United Nations specialized agency), the European Aviation Safety Agency, and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. In addition to the PV Airport, a total of 12 airports operated by GAP (Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico) in Mexico have been certified with the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) given by the Airports Council International (ACI).

Health and Safety Protocols

In order to determine which airports received the ACI Health Accreditation, numerous aspects were evaluated. To start, the AHA accreditation process assessed cleaning and disinfection practices. They also verified that social distancing was being promoted and practiced correctly.  Puerto Vallarta Airport successfully altered the layout of staff and passenger facilities to encourage a safe distance between travelers. Social distancing has been shown to reduce the transmission of the coronavirus. Lastly, adequate communication of the new procedures with passengers played an important role in earning PV Airport the ACI Health Certification.

What is the ACI?

The ACI, or Airports Council International, was created in 1991 by airport operators. It is the first worldwide airport industry association that aims to represent the common interests of airports. They also work to foster cooperation with partners in the air transport industry, so airpots can work together regarding key issues and concerns. The ACI helps facilitate a united front for the industry despite the distance between airports. Also, the ACI supports  airports best interests in discussions with international organizations. Likewise, the ACI works closely with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) who develops international standards for air transport. The ACI also plays a part in developing standards and safety, security and environmental initiative recommendations. They also advance and protect airport interests when it comes to important policies and regulations. Lastly, the ACI works to support airports when dealing with airlines as well.
